Tom Milne was a British film critic and a contributor to the Overlook Film Encyclopdias including Horror as well as the author of Mamoulian and editor of Godard on Godard. This list, in order of preference, appears on page 500 of The Overlook Film Encyclopedia: Science Fiction, edited by Phil Hardy, The Overlook Press, 1995.
Milne notes omitting films he considers horror such as King Kong, The Island of Lost Souls, Bride of Frankenstein, Mad Love, Eyes Without a Face, and The Birds. He complains that in film the science fiction genre is too focused on "alien ivaders, BEMs, technological marvels" lacking the exploration of Philip K. Dick, Theodore Sturgeon, Fritz Leiber, Alfred Bester, Philip José Farmer, Henry Kuttner, Fred Brown. "God preserve us from any more pieces of stupid butchery like Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982), which, in the interest of commercial viability, reduce the simplicity, originality and charm of their source novels to pure formula."
