Denis Gifford was a British writer, broadcaster, journalist, comic artist and historian of film, comics, television and radio and creator of the Brittish superheroes Mr Muscle, Streamline, and Tiger-Man and the detective Ray Regan. In addition to writing, drawing, and having one of the largest private collections of British comic books, he also wrote more than 50 books on popular culture and was one of the contributors to The Overlook Film Encyclopedia: Science Fiction, edited by Phil Hardy, The Overlook Press, 1995. He didn't make any comments on his list other than to say that he omitted Frankenstein (1931) because he considers it a horror film, and that he listed the films in alphabetical order.
