Starting 2024 right where I left off, with the usual eclectic mix of the classics, the good, the meh, and an occasional WTF ("Fehérlófia" I'm looking in your direction!), with 1/3 being foreign. Ticked 72 movies off my start-of-year watchlist (I don't like to shill for my own lists, but if you're curious: https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-films-on-ghosts-2024-watchlist). Goal is to hit 500 by 12/31. (I expect it to get harder as the year goes on.)
This month's recommendations: Arrival (not *The* Arrival); Best in Show; Drive; The Illusionist; In the Name of the Father; Philadelphia; Raging Bull; Won't You Be My Neighbor? (bring tissues), and two films which are now on my top-10-of-all-time list: Ikiru and Tokyo Story.
List image is from the concert film Hardcore Devo Live! One of my favorite bands playing the songs they wrote when they were first starting out. The movie itself wasn't that compelling, but as a fan, I *loved* it, and this was the movie I started 2024 with.
