Tim Pulleine: Ten Best Horror Films

Tim Pulleine is one of the authors of The Encyclopedia of Horror Movies/The Auburn/Overlook Film Encyclopedia: Horror, edited by Phil Hardy. His list appears on apge 398 of the first edition (Harper & Row, 1985). "I have omitted the silent peirod on grounds of insufficient acquaintance. My list is an attempt to group a selection of personal favorites so as to represent a wide range of styles and 'cross-bred' influences, with (I suppose) one tendentious element in stating my preference for [Victor] Fleming's Dr. Jekyll [and Mr. Hyde] over [Rouben] Mamoulian's." He lists his choices in chronological order. Notably, three of his choices, The Walking Dead (pictured in the main image because I couldn't find a picture of him), Them!, and Les Diaboliques were excluded from the main text of the Encyclopedia.
