The English Teacher Goes to the Movies Part 5: The Great Directors - 1 Film Each - Page 4

This time, our intrepid maverick English Teacher/Director/Film Geek looks at the work of some of the most influential directors in film history. To keep the list manageable, he limited selections to ONE representative film for each filmmaker. He also sought an historical perspective ( the films are listed chronologically) as well as diversity. A conscious effort was made to include women and minority directors. After many difficult, painful omissions ( goodbye "Grapes Of Wrath", "Touch Of Evil", and "Dr. Strangelove", just to name a few particularly painful cuts) he was able to get the list down to 130 directors, 130 films. This is not a "Greatest of all time" list; it is a purely personal reflection on films he really likes by filmmakers he truly admires. The reader should feel free to disagree and debate the contents. The compiler also would like it known that his favorites are " The Third Man", "The Searchers", and "2001", for whatever that's worth.
