Great Books About Film: Reading the Movies

Although it may seem contradictory, there are some great books about movies. Some are film theory, some are film criticism, some are histories, some are biographies, and some are appreciations. I have arbitrarily excluded shooting scripts, how-to manuals, and coffee table books in order to keep the list manageable. Anyway, here is a personal list of favorite readings about my second favorite art form.
