Books That Mary Would Have Her Students Read If She Were a High School English Teacher

Honestly, I think it's time to start switching up the typical books taught in high schools. In today's sociopolitical climate, I think there are a lot of great contemporary works of literary fiction that would help teenagers navigate the world a little better. The Great Gatsby is great and all, but I think students would benefit from reading things a bit more relevant to them.
