Birds New to North America: 1960s

This is a list of rare birds that were first recorded in the U.S. or Canada in the 1960s, presented in chronological order; the list comes from Appendix C of Rare Birds of North America (Howell et al, 2014). Twelve of these birds come from the Palearctic (Europe and/or Asia); 8 of the land birds are native to mainland tropical America from Mexico southward, while Bahama Woodstar and La Sagra's Flycatcher are specialties of the Caribbean; Black Noddy, Lesser Frigatebird and Red-footed Booby are found worldwide in tropical waters; Wandering Albatross is widely distributed across the southern oceans; and Belcher's Gull and Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel are found along the Pacific coast of South America.
