The Old Grey Whistle Test (usually abbreviated to Whistle Test or OGWT) is a British television music show.
According to presenter Bob Harris, the programme derived its name from a Tin Pan Alley phrase from years before. When they got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys – doormen in grey suits. Any song they could remember and whistle, having heard it just once or twice, had passed the old grey whistle test. OGWT December 23rd 1983 Introduced by David Hepworth and Mark Ellen - they announce that the Stone Fox Chase intro was being dropped "quite a relief for us" and the show's title was now just Whistle Test.
Audionut- The performences on the OGWT were for the most part live, and whilst we can't have the artist live in our living room we do at least have the option of a live or studio album giving us the track(s) as performed on the show. Series 14 covers mainly 1984/85 so enjoy some great music by some great artists.
