Washington's Special Birds - Page 2

The Evergreen State is famous for the temperate rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula, the waters of Puget Sound, and the peaks of the Cascades. But Washington is also a fabulous place to look for birds: more than 500 species have been seen here. The state's northerly location means many boreal and Arctic species are easier to see here than elsewhere in the lower 48. Among Washington's avian highlights are wintering Gyrfalcons and Trumpeter Swans in the Skagit, four species of chickadees in the Okanogon Mountains, and many songbirds that would normally be considered "eastern" species in the riparian habitats east of the Cascades.
