Oregon's Special Birds

The Beaver State has a wide variety of prime birding attractions. The myriad islands off the length of the Oregon coast are home to colonies of nesting seabirds, while the mainland coast provides numerous opportunities for viewing migrating and wintering shorebirds. Further inland, the fields and wetlands of the Willamette Valley serve as the wintering grounds for scores of waterfowl, and the drier oak woodlands of the Rogue Valley have birds like Oak Titmouse and California Towhee better known from California. The Cascades and other mountain ranges offer great summertime birding for high-elevation species. Finally, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in the southeast, a wetland oasis in a sea of sagebrush desert, ranks as one of America's top birding hotspots.
