Umbrellas' Top 100 Films of the 1930s
So here's the second instalment of my favourites-of-the-decade lists, now expanded to 100 to do justice to what is probably my second favourite decade for film (after the 1970s). It's got gangsters, monsters, pre-Code naughtiness, Busby Berkeley, Dietrich & von Sternberg, Lubitsch and Chevalier, Marx brothers, Chaplin (contd.), Grant and Hepburn going at it hammer and tongs, 1939... Even the film in 100th place, Gold Diggers of 1935, while not a great film overall, contains what I'm convinced is the all time greatest musical number of all time, 'The Lullaby of Broadway'.
