The English Teacher's Top Ten: The Films of Laurence Harvey
Our maverick English Teacher and movie buff goes the "Top Ten "route with movie makers, movie stars, and movie genres. Next up - Laurence Harvey. Difficult, controversial, overbearing, and egocentric, Harvey nonetheless had a decade run from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s where he appeared in high profile projects on both sides of the Atlantic, most notably in "Room at the Top" , "The Manchurian Candidate", and "Darling". Erratic behavior, substance abuse, and cancer all took their toll, so that by the time of his early death in 1973, he was doing TV guest shots and B features when he worked at all. He is probably most remembered for his role in John Wayne's "The Alamo", but like everyone else connected with that film, Harvey did better work in other, better movies.
