The English Teacher's Top Ten: Greatest Science Fiction Movies

Our maverick English Teacher and movie buff goes the "Top Ten " route with movie makers, movie stars, and movie genres. Up next - the greatest SF movies. This is an extremely subjective list; the compiler was hard pressed to narrow it down to 10. The ground rules were: 1) No 50s Sci-Fi Movies; our compiler made a separate list for them; 2) movie franchises would be represented by 1 choice (hence, the original Star Wars stands for all those great, sequel laden franchises; 3) movies that were essentially other genres dressed up in SF trappings were excluded (much as I love the original "Alien", it's a horror movie; CE3K is a fantasy ); and 4) the films had to contain legitimate SF themes and tropes. The final cut was subjective; our compiler just likes "Alphaville" more than he likes "Solaris", so there you are. And "2001" is still the greatest SF movie ever made.
