"Like television and film, the music industry has undergone seismic changes over the last 10 years, the effects of which we could be parsing for many decades to come. With more access to more music than ever, we continued to fragment as listeners, our journeys often guided by individualized feeds, subscriptions, and playlist algorithms. This division was certainly reflected in the wide variety of nominations sent in by our critics for best albums of the 2010s, only a small fraction of which made the final list below. Among these albums we all agree on, however, are unforgettable challenges to and elevations of the traditional LP form, ones that both define the decade behind us and point toward what's next."
