Sounding History of Classical Music (Orbis Lexikon) - Page 4

Recently I have obtained an old German reference book about music, and there was a list of music works which were originally attached to it on records (mostly in fragments). The intention was not simply to name the most famous works, but to show the development of music through the centuries, that's why the list contains a lot of early music and some other less obvious choices. I allowed myself to replace some short songs and pieces with whole cycles or genres (e.g. whole operas instead of arias, Suite bergamasque instead of Claire de lune etc.) The list was divided into thematic chapters, so the order of works is not always strictly chronological.
