Great horror doesn't have to be scary. It can be lyric, disturbing, funny, gross or a hundred other things. But it can be scary. The thing about scary horror, though, is that it isn't necessarily great.
The purpose of this list is to ignore the need for good or great and just focus on the scares. Some of these are classics that will appear on multiple best horror lists, but some are only scary. This is a personal list of those films that scared me when I saw them. They may just be my own personal nightmare fuel, but I expect they will have the same effect on others.
