Pairings

I've enjoyed seeing other posters suggest paired books/stories. While not necessarily equivalent in aspiration and achievement, some stories resonate, either complementing or contradicting each other, so here's a list of novels and/or shorter stories (or collections of them) I think would work in tandem. Some of these pairings have similar settings or characters or sources of inspiration, some share themes or narrative approaches, some depict similar situations, some share a genre and a few pairings ... they just appeal to my sense of humor.
For anyone interested, short stories/novellas listed are, Ghost Summer; The Great God Pan; The Gutting of Couffignal; The Hands of Mr. Ottermole; Mr. Big; Pomegranate Seed; Afterward; Washington Square; The Fall River Axe Murders; The Voice in the Night; The Autopsy.
