Missouri's Special Birds - Page 3

With the confluences of the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio Rivers along its eastern border, the Great Plains on the west, and the Ozark Mountains and bald cypress swamps in the south, Missouri has a variety of habitats that provide home for a fitting variety of birds. A number of bird species are close to their eastern or western range limits here, barely scraping into the next state in either direction, if at all. Although not a native species (unlike every other bird on this list), the introduced Eurasian Tree Sparrow has its North American stronghold in eastern Missouri, along with southern Iowa and western Illinois.
