Matthew Sheldon's Top 85 English Language Films of the 2010s (2020 Version) - Page 3

It's been the worst decade for movies. Most of the decade had been full of CGI franchises like Marvel movies (MCU), Disney remakes and Pixar films. And I believe Disney and it's evil billion dollar empire is a large cause for the death of indie cinema. Today we have less mature stories made for adults and more fanboy franchises created specifically for the minds of a manchild while being crammed with mostly CGI throw-up. Ok, I'm being kind of harsh. There were some memorable English Language films too. Just not as strong as the 00s and nowhere near as strong as the 90s, 70s, 50s or 40s. This is the decade where the quality of television surpassed cinema. Sad. And it looks like with the pandemic of Covid and the financial loss with movie theaters that this might very well be the end of an older kind of cinema and the birth of a new cinematic medium. We'll have to wait and see. But I believe the great Martin Scorsese was right: "The cinema I grew up with and that I'm making...it's gone."
