Matthew Sheldon's Top 55 Films on Mental Illness - Page 2

Mental illness seems to be a complex and difficult subject for Hollywood to tackle seriously. Throughout the years it has been used as a negative stigma within the horror genre, which began all the way back to the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. However this has created some legendary, but nevertheless far-fetched, psychopathic killers (Silence of the Lambs, Se7en and Split). For me what is annoying is when Hollywood uses it create overly manipulative, preachy and sentimental Oscar bait (Forrest Gump, I Am Sam, Radio). Here are my top 30 favorite films that explore the world of mental illness and tries (it's best at least) to distance itself from such stereotypes.
