Matthew Sheldon's Top 100 Favorite English Language Films From the 1940s - Page 3

The 1940's was the greatest decade ever for American cinema. It was the rise of the greatest genre ever and of the greatest star ever: The Film-noir and Humphrey Bogart. It was the peak of the screwball comedy and actors like Cary Grant and James Stewart were starring in some of Alfred Hitchcock's early classic thrillers. Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Bette Davis, James Cagney, Ingrid Bergman, Orson Welles, Barbara Stanwyck and Laurence Olivier. You can't get better than that.
