"Horror movie remakes are as old as cinema itself, and they're not always a bad thing. After all, John Carpenter's The Thing - considered by fans as one of the scariest horror films of all time - was an update of the 1951 Howard Hawks film The Thing From Another World. Certain movies lend themselves retellings with fresh perspectives, as was the case with The Thing, as well as The Fly (the 1986 David Cronenberg remake of the 1958 original), Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (the 1978 remake of the 1956 original), and even Night Of The Living Dead (Tom Savini's 1990 version is a surprisingly solid update of the 1968 George Romero original).
But then there are the horror reboots that, for all intents and purposes, never needed to be made."
