Hoofed Mammals of North America
This is a list of all hoofed mammals (ungulates) native to the US and Canada. Not included here are several non-native game species, namely Wild Boar and a few species of deer and antelope. Interestingly, although horses evolved in North America, they became extinct here during prehistory, and so the Wild Horse/Mustang is not included here either. These native species are all artiodactyls (even-toed ungulates, as opposed to horses, rhinos and tapirs, which are perissodactyls or odd-toed), and are divided amongst four families: Tayussidae (peccaries), Cervidae (deer), Antilocapridae (Pronghorn) and Bovidae (bison, antelope, sheep, goats, etc.).
