A challenge for those who claim or aspire to be well-read. Great works by Austen, Camus, Cather, Conrad, Dickens, Dostoevsky, George Eliot, Faulkner, Flaubert & many more. Mostly novels, but lovers of poetry, drama, philosophy and other non-fiction are well served. Don't miss out on the W.H. Auden, William Blake, T.S. Eliot & Robert Frost extravaganzas!
This is a much expanded version of my recent "Greaterbooks.com" challenges. Specifically, I've included books from "The Master List" that appear on at least 2 of 47 source lists used at that site (for some consensus, but still only a small % of the books on The Master List). I have excluded books written in ancient (BCE) times (those are for a later challenge).
The books are in alphabetical order by author's surname; then, within authors, in descending order of number of appearances on "The Master List". Finally books with the same number of appearances are usually arranged alphabetically (or by date if that seems more sensible).
