Girl's Guide to Okay Movies: 1960

This series is based on A Girl's Guide to Good Movies (https://www.listchallenges.com/girls-guide-to-good-movies). I picked 40 movies per year that portray women in an interesting light. In some years women are just props without thought or motivation (the 1970's were especially unkind). As we enter the 60's with the rise of 'auteur' male filmmakers, complex roles for women begin to dwindle. Vapid models begin to enter the ranks as the box office caters almost exclusively to the male audience. Shirley MacLaine, Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood jiggle for attention while serious actresses are given the same role over and over: the uptight prude with her hen-pecked man. It's about to get grim.
