Films Umbrellas Saw in September 2020

Here are all the films I watched in September 2020, listed in order of how much I liked them (most liked first). As usual I was impressed by some of the old Hollywood classics I saw for the first time, notably It Happened One Night and The Shop Around the Corner, but top spot goes to the less well-known Monte Walsh. I'm a big fan of moody 70s westerns generally and in my view this belongs alongside other great westerns of the period like Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid or McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Lee Marvin has never been better and he gets good support from Jack Palance and Jeanne Moreau (!). At the other end of the scale there was nothing I really hated this month but 47 Ronin is long, slow and morose. If this is 'the best Japanese film made during the war', as I've seen claimed, then that era of Japanese cinema must be a bit of a black hole.
