Films Umbrellas Saw for the First Time in 2019 - Ranked
- Page 4
These are all the films I saw for the first time in 2019, ranked in order of how much I liked them (most liked first). The ranking is easier at the top and bottom of the list; in the middle it's more approximate. At any rate, it seems I like Billy Wilder and (most) Lars von Trier, among others, and am not keen on Bela Tarr or most of Godard's output. The number 1 film, Double Indemnity, is still only number 80 on my overall all-time list, but it's one of the great noir thrillers and in my view is fully deserving of all the praise that's come its way over the years. Overall, I'd happily recommend most of the films on the list, apart from about the bottom 50. Other than the obvious stuff, I'd maybe recommend trying some lesser known 1920s silents like 'Piccadilly' and 'It'. They introduced me to Anna May Wong and Clara Bow, respectively, and I'm very grateful to have discovered two wonderful 'new' actresses I'd never even heard of a few years ago.
