Delaware's Special Birds - Page 3

Delaware's location on the Chesapeake Bay makes it a prime spot to look for waterbirds at all times of the year. The First State is most famous for its shorebird spectacle, with thousands of threatened Red Knots, and numerous other shorebird species, staging at various places along the Delaware coast during spring and fall migration, including the rare but annual Ruff and Curlew Sandpiper from Europe. The interior part of the state has forest birds typical of eastern North America, among them the northernmost populations of the pinewoods specialist Brown-headed Nuthatch.
