The Snake River is, at 1,078 miles long, the longest tributary of the Columbia River and the ninth-longest in the United States, rising in the Yellowstone area of northwestern Wyoming before passing through southern Idaho and the Hells Canyon area of northeastern Oregon before meeting the Columbia in southeastern Washington at the Tri-Cities area.
