"Thanks to Hollywood's growing interest in the grittier sides of TV and film, television has turned from a simple storytelling medium to an inter-network brooding contest. The trend of ultra-dark visuals in TV and film began as an innovative new approach to visual storytelling, with shows like Game of Thrones having hooked audiences from the jump with their alluring and grim atmospheres.

However, many argue that Hollywood's recent dark filming trends have made for an overall less comfortable viewing experience and have cheapened their favorite shows. Be it a brooding cop show or a gothic supernatural drama, television as a whole has become a sea of black screens on black screens."
