Books Published in Multiple Volumes

Some authors just don't know when to stop and as a result, their magnum opus, the single work that defines their oeuvre, has to be published in parts. And, unlike a trilogy or series of books, these books weren't written to be separate works. It's one book, dangit! You can't finish volume 1 and put it down and feel like all the characters' arcs are complete, the themes exhausted, and the story truly completed. It's not even a cliffhanger! It just... ends.
