Single Movies Based on Multiple Books

Unlike Book Adaptations Split Into Multiple Movies (found here: http://www.listchallenges.com/book-adaptations-split-into-multiple-movies), sometimes Hollywood likes to reverse the trend and cram multiple books into a single movie. This trend is... baffling, since it's not like when they split a book into several films, when you blame it on the studio wanting more money. The studios make less money, fans are upset because so much stuff gets dropped from the plot, and the movie itself sometimes feels awkwardly paced. So who wins here?
