Book Series That Flopped as Films
Hollywood loves sequels, so why not make films based on book series, right? Built-in market, & multiple sequels-great idea! Sometimes. With everyone & their uncle writing fantasy, dystopian & series about vampires, there's movies for everyone. But for every "Twilight", there's "Vampire Academy". Not all these movies suck, just most of them. "Master & Commander" with Russell Crowe was an Oscar-nominated hit, no follow-up, despite another 18 books in the series. Same with "A Series of Unfortunate Events". Maybe "Seventh Son" might have done better as "The Spook's Apprentice" instead of sounding like it's based on the Orson Scott Card fantasy series? Or if "The Seeker"-which sounds like a "Harry Potter" rip-off-was called just "The Dark is Rising", maybe Susan Cooper would be enjoying a resurgence? Who knows. Now "Narnia", "Percy Jackson" both had sequels, but it I don't think the whole series will be completed anytime soon. "The 5th Wave" looks to be another washout.
