Many modern films have been influenced by the unique style born out of these theatres. Such films fall into two broad categories, the ultra-violent action film, and the disturbing gore-filled horror film. Occasionally trends are bucked and psychological methods are used to great effect. Regardless these films pushed boundaries, questioned taboos, and occasionally they made great insightful social commentary. So, how far reaching has this phenomenon got?
