In my last list I listed 40 modern films that Grindhouse Cinema has influenced. Many directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriquez and Jason Eisener have outright stated their influences, others we're left only educated guesses.
Here are 25 of the most influential Grindhouse films. Some got recognition and where re-released to standard theatres/cinemas, particularly of the slasher sub-genre. Others however where considered so severe they where banned as obscene material, possession of which carried up to 10 years in prison. Some where still banned up until 2003 here in the UK, and in some countries such as Germany, some are still banned to this day. They may seem crude; or contain needlessly gore, sex and/or violence, but without them would we question the darker sides of humanity and reach beyond our taboos?
Are they all deep works of art? Hardly, though some could be said to be. They are however, a vital part of cinema, so, how many have you seen?
