Only 28 Major League Baseball players have reached the 3,000 hit mark in their career (two, Pete Rose and Ty Cobb, reached 4,000 -- a figure unlikely to be reached anywhere in the near future.) Only five of the 28 reached 3,500 hits, and only twelve reached 3,250.
Of these 28 players, 24 are in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Pete Rose is ineligible, due to a lifetime ban; Derek Jeter is still active; and Craig Biggio and Rafael Palmeiro have not been elected at this time.
