100 English Language Films of the 1960s in Matthew Sheldon's Collection

The 1960s was one of the most crucial decades for American cinema. It was extremely segregated separating the older audiences who attended movies like the Sound of Music and the young anti-establishment youth attending movies like Easy Rider. You had many of the iconic Golden Age filmmakers of the 30s and 40s like John Ford and Alfred Hitchcock nearing the end of their careers while new fresh rock & roll directors like Arthur Penn and Robert Altman were crossing the lines of violence and sex with the death of the Production Code. While this New Hollywood movement was invading American cinemas European filmmakers like Bergman, Fellini and Bresson and the Japanese filmmakers like Kurosawa, Ozu and Mizoguchi were also releasing some of their best work. Overall, the 60's was probably the best decade for world cinema.
