10 Great Fantasy Movies Not Based on Books According to Screenrant

"Fantasy is a genre typically associated with literature, whether it be dark adult novels, children's books, or otherwise, but not all stories in fantasy movies started life as books. Some of the best movies in fantasy cinema history are based on the written word. 'The Princess Bride,' 'The NeverEnding Story,' 'The Last Unicorn,' and 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks' are just some examples of fantasy adventures that were books before they were movies. However, it's fair to say some of the very best fantasy movies are original works or otherwise inspired. They may even feel like they should've been books, resulting in shock and surprise when people realize they were not. Their stories do not trace back to any particular novel, although some of them were adapted from or inspired by other pieces of media." - screenrant.com
