The 90's were hardly short on big-budget, big-screen epics, some of which were masterpieces ("Schindler's List"), some of which starred Tom Hanks. But if you were too old for Disney cartoons, too young for Merchant Ivory, and too smart to watch Tom Cruise grow up in public yet again, you were in luck, since the decade was a Golden Age for quirky independent films.
