Wikipedia's "List of Books Banned in the USA by Governments"

Wikipedia's list included all of the world governments; this list pulled out just the books banned by the American government. In some instances the book was only banned in some states or was not allowed to go through the mail. "The Meritorious Price of Our Redemption," a critique of Puritanism, was the first book banned in the New World. In 1650 it was found to be heresy. "Fanny Hill" was the last book to be banned by a government entity in the U.S. It's ban for obscenity was lifted in 1966 by the Supreme Court. NOTE: James Joyce's "Ulysses" was banned for a brief time in the U. S. It should be included on this list.
