Western Films 1990-1999
- Page 7
Continuing my lists from where Phil Hardy left off (omitting 1990 films included and including 1980s films excluded), this is a comprehensive list of all Western films released in the 1990s, derived from various sources including the Internet Movie Database, Moviefone, Wikipedia, and Google What to Watch. Often thought of as a dead or dying genre, it was actually thriving on television with such series as The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr; Walker, Texas Ranger; Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman; The Magnificent Seven, and both live-action and animated series of Zorro. Many of these films were made for television, but the genre had its second Oscar win for Unforgiven in 1992. Staying truer to real events, or claiming to, including indigenous points of view, and literary adaptations were major trends, as tewll as time travel science fiction (even three set on other planets) and hybrids with fantasy and/or horror. Hardy also identified a continuing trend of family-oriented wilderness films.
