U.S. Cities Formerly With 100,000+ People
This is a list of U.S. cities that in previous censuses have had a population of 100,000 people or more, but do not anymore. Not included in this list are Allegheny, Pennsylvania (which was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907) and Brooklyn, New York (which was consolidated with New York City in 1898); the latter also had the highest population of any of these cities (806,000 in 1890). Of the cities that are actually included in this list, the ones that had the highest population were Flint, Michigan (197,000 in 1960), Gary, Indiana (178,000 in 1960), and Youngstown, Ohio (170,000 in 1930). Kenosha, Wisconsin is a special case; a July 2012 estimate had the city at 100,150 people, but that is the only time it has passed the threshold to date.
