Updated Yet Another Oct. Ghost and Horror Story List

Five years ago I offered a list of books I thought good reading for October and Halloween. Here's an expansion. Included are ghost stories (de la Mare, M. R. James), slasher stories (Graham Jones), cosmic horror (Hodgson, Lovecraft), weird fiction (Ligotti, Carroll), Gothic (Du Maurier, Martin, Slaughter), mystery/thriller (Allingham, Carr, Sager), dark fantasy (Ashton Smith), "literary fiction" (Morrison, Everett, O'Brien), kids' books (Bradbury, Gaiman), fairy tale-ish (Goss, Slaughter), s.f. (Matheson, Kneale), noir (Woolrich), single-author story collections (Brown, Lee, Bradbury), even some humor (Zelazny, Sidor), a scattering of vampires and werewolves, some less easily classified books (Harrison, Gay) and non-fiction (Hartman, Hendrix, Kroger). Listed in author order, some books are horrific, some much lighter.
