The traditional diet on Crete was mostly plant-based with lots of pulse, fresh fruit and vegetables, olive oil, some dairy and fish and only little meat. This diet is supposed to be the reason why in the Seven Countries Study in the 1950's, people from Crete were healthiest and had the highest life expectancy.
