Top 100 Outlaw Country Albums of All Time

Under heavy-handed record label control, 1960's country music was dominated by the string-laden Nashville Sound. At the end of the decade a growing counterculture began to bloom, where artists grew their hair long and scruffy and began to ditch the nudie suits for denim and leather. Demanding more creative control, artists like Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson made raw masculine songs about drinking, drugs, hard working men and criminals. With the old establishment firmly entrenched in Nashville, Texas became a mecca for this progressive country style. It is no surprise that the ragged, sparse songs about honky tonkin' rebels from this era has been dubbed Outlaw Country.
