The German Cinema by Roger Manvell and Heinrich Fraenkel, 1971 - Page 11

This is a list of films (much more complete than the "Select index of films" at the back of the book) mentioned in Roger Manvell and Heinrich Fraenkel's The German Cinema, published by Praeger in 1971, the first survey in English on the topic. It covers the origins of the German cinema in the theatre of Max Reinhardt, the films of the Nazi period under Joseph Goebbels, and the films of the postwar period of "de-nazification." The films are listed in the order first mentioned, counting the the tipped-in black and white plate sections as though they are part of the body of text. The authors had a peculiar habit of placing biographical information in footnotes, and for purposes of ordering, the footnotes have been treated as if part of the main text. I was not able to find corroboration of the existence of many of these films, including Nach Amerika and many of the films represented by period-appropriate German flags. I wonder if the additional three Helga films were intended as a joke.
