The Bibliophile's Great European Novels

This list is inspired by The Atlantic's recent list of their Great American Novels and my own list of Great American Novels in response to that (see the attached link). For this list, I'm not abiding by The Atlantic's strict rule that all books are published within the last 100 years (imagine the classics you'd have to leave out!) and thus having no time limit on their publication. I will make another list that does comply with that rule. So, I have 136 novels in chronological order, just like The Atlantic's list, but the one rule I imposed on myself, which The Atlantic didn't, is to allow an author only one entry on the list. I'm sure many will disagree with some of my choices, but that's the great thing about reading. Enjoy!
