The 25 Worst Blockbusters of All Time Yardbarker

Once upon a time, a film only became a blockbuster based on enthusiastic word of mouth. Movies were released gradually, by territory; if you lived in a rural area, it could be months before you saw "Gone with the Wind" or "Goldfinger". After "Jaws" and "Star Wars", studios figured out you could create a blockbuster via strong marketing and an ultra-wide opening day. Reviews be damned, if people were hyped up to see the new big-budget Hollywood extravaganza, you could be sitting on a $100 million gross before the stink hit. This has been the prevailing strategy for nearly fifty years, and it's allowed some of the worst movies ever made to become top all-time grossers.
