Ten Essential Songs: The Jazz Butcher

One of the best and least successful artists of the 80's, the Jazz Butcher, a.k.a. Pat Fish, released scads of brilliant songs that 99.9% of the rock audience never heard. The only Jazz Butcher song you might conceivably know is "The Devil is My Friend," which gained occasional radio airplay and some notoriety among Hell's Angels in the mid-80's. Some of us think the world would be a better place if a generation eschewed "The old boy may be barely breathing, but the heart of rock and roll is still beating" in favor of "Caroline Wheeler's Birthday Present was made entirely from the skins of dead Jim Morrisons . . . that's why it smells so bad," but regrets make for poor company.
